Luxury Family Safaris the Whole Family Remembers
Safaris that work for grandparents, parents and teenagers alike
A great family safari has to work for everyone at once — the grandparents, the parents, and the teenager who insists they’ll be bored (and then never puts the binoculars down). Getting that balance right is a craft, and it’s one we’ve practised for years.
We plan family journeys that are safe, comfortable and genuinely exciting, with the flexibility that families need built in from the start.
What makes a family safari work
The right lodges make all the difference: family suites and interleading rooms, flexible drive times so younger children aren’t overtired, guides who know how to captivate a ten-year-old, and — where it matters — malaria-free reserves for peace of mind.
- Family suites and connecting rooms.
- Flexible, shorter drives for younger children.
- Guides who are wonderful with kids and teens.
- Malaria-free options for young families.
- Exclusive-use villas so everyone stays together.
“It was our first time travelling to South Africa, Zimbabwe and Zambia and we had three teenagers in tow… The itinerary was built to accommodate our wishes. We dealt mostly with Tayla at Ranger Buck and she was a star. We’d happily recommend them to anyone.”

Frequently Asked Questions
What age is best for a first family safari?
There’s no single answer, but many families find six and up works well. We can recommend lodges with minimum-age policies and activities suited to your children’s ages.
Are there malaria-free safari options?
Yes — several excellent reserves are malaria-free, which many families prefer for young children. We’ll build your trip around them if you’d like.
Can you keep the whole family together?
Absolutely. Family suites, a private vehicle, or taking a small lodge exclusively all keep everyone together.

For every generation
From toddlers to grandparents, we match the trip to the ages travelling. For larger groups, taking a lodge on an exclusive-use basis is often the best answer — the whole family together, on its own schedule.
Real family journeys
We’ve taken families of eight across Southern Africa without a hitch, and arranged trips for three generations aged 20 to 75 where every single person had the time of their lives. Whatever your family looks like, we’ve likely planned one like it.
