Fly-In Safaris — More Time in the Wild, Less on the Road

Skip the long drives and land minutes from camp

The quickest way to ruin the start of a safari is a long road transfer. A fly-in safari solves it: a light aircraft lifts you from the city or the last camp and sets you down on a bush airstrip minutes from your lodge, with a guide already waiting.

For luxury travellers with limited time — especially those flying in from the USA — it is the single best upgrade you can make to an itinerary.

How a fly-in safari works

After your international flight, you connect to a scheduled or private light aircraft that hops between airstrips deep inside the reserves. Luggage is soft-sided and weight-limited, transfers are short, and the whole journey feels seamless because we arrange every leg for you.

  • Light-aircraft hops between remote airstrips.
  • Short transfers straight to camp — no long drives.
  • Reach exclusive, hard-to-access reserves.
  • We handle every connection and transfer.

“Ranger Buck arranged all the flights inside Africa, all went smoothly. Onto the first of 3 safaris, 3 days at each. Mala Mala, Kapama and Eagle Island. Each have their own uniqueness in terrain but each share the fingerprint of a very personal experience.”

Frequently Asked Questions

What can I pack for a fly-in safari?
Light aircraft require soft-sided bags and observe weight limits (usually around 15–20kg). We’ll send exact limits for your route, and lodges offer laundry so you can pack light.

Are fly-in safaris safe?
Yes. The operators we use are established, well-maintained charter and scheduled services flown by experienced bush pilots.

Is fly-in worth the extra cost?
If your time is limited or you want remote camps, absolutely — it turns travel days into safari days.

Why choose fly-in

You gain days you would otherwise lose on the road, you reach camps that road travellers simply can’t, and you string several lodges together into one effortless trip. Our guests consistently remark on how smoothly the internal flights are handled.

Sabi Sand and Timbavati in the Greater Kruger, the Okavango Delta in Botswana, and lodges such as Kapama are all beautifully suited to fly-in access. A short, ready-made example is our Kapama Fly-in Safari — four nights, minimal transit, maximum bush.
