Journey Through Botswana — Delta, Chobe & Savuti | Ranger Buck Safaris

An elephant crosses the Chobe — the river that gives northern Botswana one of the largest elephant populations in Africa.

Botswana is more than a safari destination.

It is Africa at its wildest and least crowded.

Welcome to the Ranger Buck Safaris journal. This edition heads into Botswana — pristine wilderness, exceptional wildlife and a deliberate policy of keeping visitor numbers low. It is the reason a Botswana safari still feels like it belongs to you.

Africa’s untamed wilderness

From the waterways of the Okavango Delta and the elephant plains of Chobe to the predator country of Savuti and the vast salt pans of the Makgadikgadi, Botswana holds some of the finest wildlife areas left on the continent — and most of them are reached by light aircraft rather than by road.

Five regions worth knowing before you plan anything:

Okavango Delta

The world’s largest inland delta, seen the way it should be — by mokoro, by boat, on foot with a guide, and from open vehicles working the islands between the channels.

Chobe National Park

One of the largest elephant populations in Africa. River safaris along the Chobe, game everywhere you look, and the sunsets the river is known for.

Savuti

Predator country. Lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and hyena all work the open plains here, and Savuti has a long reputation for the dramatic sightings that follow.

Makgadikgadi Pans

One of the largest salt pans on earth. Meerkats, seasonal zebra movements, ancient landscape and the kind of night sky you only get this far from anywhere.

Linyanti & Selinda

Remote private concessions with very few vehicles. Exceptional guiding, small luxurious camps, and consistently good elephant and wild dog sightings.

Why Botswana

  • Low-volume, high-value safaris by design
  • Exceptional wildlife viewing year-round
  • Both water-based and land-based safari activities
  • World-class lodges and private concessions
  • Combines easily with Victoria Falls, South Africa, Namibia and Zambia

What it is actually like

Botswana offers one of the most authentic safari experiences in Africa, and the reason is policy rather than luck: high-value, low-volume tourism means fewer vehicles, larger concessions and camps that stay small.

Whether you are gliding through the Delta in a mokoro, watching elephant gather on the Chobe at the end of the day, or sitting with a predator sighting in Savuti for as long as it lasts, the days here tend to deliver more than the itinerary promised.
